How it works

The three formulas differ only in their numbers. Each adds a set number of kilograms per inch above 60 inches to a base weight for your sex. The range runs from the lowest result to the highest. For a woman at 5 ft 1 in the Miller step is 1.36 kg per inch.

Worked example

Subtract 60 from the height. 5 ft 1 in gives 1 inches. Now use the female numbers. Devine: 45.5 + 2.3 × 1 = 47.8 kg. Robinson: 49 + 1.7 × 1 = 50.7 kg. Miller: 53.1 + 1.36 × 1 = 54.46 kg. In pounds that is 105 lb, 112 lb and 120 lb. The range is 105 to 120 lb.
