How it works

Every method starts from a base weight at 60 inches and adds kilograms for each extra inch. The bases and the steps differ by sex and by formula. You get three estimates and a range. Below 60 inches the Miller base of 53.1 kg is the whole answer.

Worked example

Take a woman who is 4 ft 11 in tall. That is 1 inch under 60. Each formula adds 0. Devine: 45.5 + 2.3 × 0 = 45.5 kg, or 100 lb. Robinson: 49 + 1.7 × 0 = 49 kg, or 108 lb. Miller: 53.1 + 1.36 × 0 = 53.1 kg, or 117 lb. The range is 100 to 117 lb.
